Games consoles are becoming more and more high tech as they go on and the real question is, could they be used in the office for things like Asset Tracking?
Well if you look at a console like the Nintendo Wii, it has to be said of course not. But if you take the Xbox 360 or PS3 and think about how the next versions would look like then you may see that it is is more than possible.
So what would the office day look like if you had an Xbox instead of a PC?
Morning
Do a bit of asset tracking, followed by a light snack followed by a bit of actual work.
Lunch
Switch the console over to game mode and play a couple of matches on the newest Halo game with mates from around the office.
Afternoon
Bit more work with a last half hour gaming session on the Xbox before clocking off in the evening.
Now that sounds like a fantastic day at work if you ask me!
Would all of this really be possible, only time will tell but for now enjoy them for what they are, great toys!

It’s like universities using modded PS3’s to run research simulations on because he hardware is so cheap.
We have a Wii in the office and had some great team building “Wii Olympics” competitions during the last Olympic games.
Gaming consoles will make your work concentration drop down.
online gaming is one of the famous business i have ever been through, branded companies are earning a lot from this business, and we know people are mad about games.
I own a PS2 at my work place, I used to play it whenever I want to relax a bit, its not helping me directly, but it does prove to be a lot of help to refresh my mind a lot.
That’s where I think you are wrong, playing games at work from time to time is a great way to relax!
I suppose if one subscribes to the theory that familiarity eliminates obstacles to learning, then having an analogous reference with game life and vocational life to further education and learning might be workable. I think we all have to keep searching for new tools to keep students engaged.
Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony need a new game plan. Amid growing evidence old marketing strategies aren’t working and concerns by some analysts that holiday sales may be lackluster, the big three console makers are scrambling for new ways to entice consumers.
At the E3 Expo in Los Angeles in May, Microsoft unveiled Natal, a fully hands-free control system, while Sony demonstrated a similar control system that works with the PlayStation Eye. “This industry requires risk and constant innovation,” says Jack Tretton, the chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America.
These can be used as an additional tool and it can be very useful if it is used properly.
Believe it or not, the Google Corporation has video games at their head offices. If you look online, it will show pictures of their work place. They even have pool tables.
I think they are good to an extent. Of course with all the games coming out nowadays there are tons of different software that could be used at the work place specifically for business.
However, should employees be allowed to play on their down time? Well, sure why not. It allows for a relaxed environment.
Now of course, if the employees are taking advantage of this privilege then some guidelines and rules will need to be set. If that does not work, then maybe it’s just not meant to be?
To be honest I dont see much working getting down if I had a xbox 360 sitting in my office at work
If Wii can be used to lose weight, it can definitely also be used for things like asset tracking
I think its a great idea for the break room. But certainly not at the desk. I find even having a TV near my desk can be distracting.
I think this is highly possible considering the advancements in technology. Given the proper attention - Sony or Microsoft could easily come up with one for sure.
Having an analogous reference with game life and vocational life to further education and learning might be workable. I think we all have to keep searching for new tools to keep students engaged. Thanks for such a nice post.
We already have a game console in the office …and it really helped the productivity since it has been brought in. Everybody loves it !
