I’m so glad that this doesn’t seem to be an issue with the new new elites. When you buy a console you expect it to work for a reasonable amount of time without paying hundreds of dollars. I feel so sorry for the parents who ahve to foot the bill.
Ive had 3 xbox 360s, the first two got the red ring of death. I take good care of them, its really annoying how they keep dying. The games sometimes freeze aswell.

Xbox 360 support has a list of solutions when the three lights on the Ring of Light (RoL) flash red on the front of the Xbox 360 console. Since it is a hardware failure, there is not much you can do.
Microsoft Corp. has announced an expansion of its global Xbox 360 warranty coverage. Any Xbox 360 customer who experiences a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing red lights will now be covered by a three year warranty from date of purchase.
“Microsoft stands behind its products and is taking responsibility to repair or replace any Xbox 360 console that experiences the ?three flashing red lights? error message within three years from time of purchase free of charge, including shipping costs. Microsoft will take a $1.05 billion to $1.15 billion pre-tax charge to earnings for the quarter ended June 30, 2007 for anticipated costs under its current and enhanced Xbox 360 policies.”
Microsoft has also decided to reimburse customers who have previously paid for repair expenses related to the three flashing lights error message on the Xbox 360 console. I liked this post very much, its right that Xbox has the unique chronic problem of red lights ring and its all because of poor assembling/cooling, however I found many solutions online that deal with that.

Fortunately, the newer X360’s have the 3 red lights problem pretty much eliminated. Unfortunately, there are many thousands of older units out there that are still perfectly good EXCEPT for the 3 red lights problem. I’ve had to fix my son’s 360 3 TIMES over the past 2 years. Ridiculous. I’m thinking of justing buying him a new unit for Christmas.

i have a new elite and I still got a few problems wasnt red lights tho my DVD drive messed up and I had a error with the motherboard.
Had to sent it away for a few weeks
I have had the 3 rings of death problem and had a new unit sent in exchange. There is not much you can do with such a hardware fail, except contact Xbox support. As a commentor above mentions it is now covered by a 3 year warranty, something which a number of players in our video game tournaments will attest too.
