Martin Acoustic Guitars

Posted by ToyBoy

The CF Martin Company has been designing and constructing Martin acoustic guitars since  January of 1796.  Following  working at the age of fifteen in a cabinet company in Germany.  Christian Frederick Martin, moved to Vienna to research guitar crafting with master guitar maker Johann Stauffer, This is where he made the very first Martin acoustic guitar.

The Martin Company is recognized for its exceptionally sounding instruments. They are renowned the world over as instruments of immense quality. Martin is certainly progressive by designing and developing models that the public strong desire.

Martin designates its diverse models with letters. D stands for dreadnought, which is a bigger guitar than its previous models with a more reverberating bass resonance.

Originally when it was put obtainable on the market it was not well-known. Musicians who were after a  higher pitched sound would opt for the standard size model which is much smaller. classical  music made it this guitar popular. A guitar with much more bass was a great accompaniment to the increased pitched violins and mandolins and grand pianos that played in this genre.

Jumbo guitars are larger than the dreadnought and has a much more thunderous sound. Its designation is the letter J. The grand auditorium guitar has a special design and style and has a larger bout or bottom than the upper the major body. It has the letter M on the label. The auditorium model is designated with OOO and is roughly the same size of the original martin and has a much higher pitch.

Lead guitar players normally favor a guitar with a C on the label, which indicates it has a cut away body to enable the player to fret larger on the neck. CF Martin has been making Martin acoustic guitars for above one particular hundred and fifty many years. With this sort of knowledge, you know that every guitar produced by Martin will be of high quality.

Easy Wooden Toys that Stimulate the Imagination

Posted by dangerousdanman

Ocean Springs, MS (PRWEB) August 13, 2008

The toys that are around today are not of the same caliber as toys of yesteryear. Many of today’s toys focus on trends, neat gadgets and are no more than glorified commercials for cartoons. Carol Lee Cantin has her own ideas of engaging a child’s mind — none of which involve a television.

“We have adorable and safe wood toys,” Cantin says of the products she offers on her site, http://www.EasyWoodenToys.com. “We have chosen wooden toys for boys and girls alike; toys that are fun and educational.”

The toys that are available in the contemporary toy store setting are based upon movie or television tie-ins and have almost no educational merit. Cantin’s store deviates from this notion and supplies families with puzzles, matching games and other wooden toys that will stimulate a child’s imagination.

Cantin also launched http://www.WoodenToysBlog.com in conjunction with http://www.EasyWoodenToys.com. Her Wooden Toys Blog focuses on the benefits of wooden and educational toys, as well as provides information on the safe, non-toxic toys sold on her site.

As Easy Wooden Toys races towards its one year anniversary, Cantin laments on the strength of her products: “I have four children, 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and nothing pleases me more than seeing their happy faces while they figure out how to put an easy wooden train together.”

Cantin’s message is clear: wooden toys are as exciting and stimulating as their cheap plastic, commercial counterparts; the only difference is that your child will walk away from the experience having used their minds and not having their imagination stifled by preprogrammed sounds and kung-fu grips.

Pure Play Kids, the non-mainstream source for battery-free toys, plaything and products, is excited to launch three new wooden toys, designed in-house and manufactured in the USA. Pure Play Kids Wooden Toy Camera, Wooden Cash Register and Wooden Fire Truck are now available at Pure Play Kids and for selective wholesale. Pure Play Kids new wooden toys join a collection of other wonderful kid-powered toys in providing a safe, creative alternative to mainstream, TV- and movie-based toys.

The Pure Play Kids Wooden Toy Camera puts imagination in focus. Like all Pure Play Kids products, the wooden camera is battery-free, and kids love to take pretend pictures with it. Made of natural contrasting walnut and maple, the Pure Play Kids Wooden Toy Camera has a rotating lens, a selection dial and a depressible wooden button.

The new Wooden Fire Engine Toy from Pure Play Kids features four removable peg people who ride in the cab and can climb the raised ladder to fight fires and rescue tree-bound cats. The bold red fire truck is made in the USA of domestic maple and allows children to create their own movements and sounds, unlike battery-powered toy fire trucks.

Pure Play Kids Wooden Cash Register is sturdily built to include a 10-count abacus, an opening money drawer, credit card swipe and coin slots. A wooden credit card and wooden coins are included, and paper currency can be downloaded at the Purely Playful Blog.

“The Pure Play Kids Wooden Toy Camera is a perfect example of the compelling toy philosophy that drives our business.” Says Tania Grant, CEO. “Pure Play Kids subscribes to the belief that the best toys are 90% kid and 10% toy because that allows imagination and creativity to flourish in children.”

“Pure Play Kids believes in filling unmet needs and providing healthy alternatives in the toy industry. Kids love to play market, and it’s great for their vocabulary, social and mathematical development, but there were no domestically-made, battery-free cash registers available. We decided to make one – the perfect one!” said CEO Tania Grant.

“Pure Play Kids Wooden Fire Truck answers a need we had as parents when our first child was one year old. Before he could talk, our son loved to make fire engine sounds, but the toy fire engines available made the sounds for him. Pure Play Kids fire engine toy puts the child back in control,” said Grant.

Pure Play Kids offers one of the largest selections of battery-free, TV-free, creative playthings in the USA. The company has a sharp focus on creativity, safety and natural materials. The majority of Pure Play Kids products are made in the USA, and the company also offers a selection of the finest European toys.

The kids are all right!

Posted by ToyBoy
Grazed knees, bumps and bruises are all a part of growing up – but it’s worth noting that many childhood accidents are preventable with a little forethought, care and attention, and this is particularly true when planning a holiday.

If you’re going away and intend to do any serious walking or climbing, make sure you take the right footwear. A decent pair of walking boots can prevent a sprained knee or ankle, which could lead to a fairly miserable holiday experience either laid-up in bed or hobbling around on crutches – perhaps something to raise a smile in years to come as you look back at the family photo album, but not much fun at the time!

If going abroad, of course get up-to-date medical advice from your GP about any jabs or other protection that might be required. Mosquito repellent may also be an essential, but remember it’s often toxic too, so be careful when applying it and look for a child-friendly version.

It is also vitally important to remember that kids’ skin is much more sensitive than ours, so, if holidaying somewhere hot, apply plenty of strong sunscreen and reapply regularly (especially if the children are splashing about in the water, as this can both make them feel cool when actually they’re burning, and also it washes the sunscreen off). Introduce your little ones to the sun gradually, taking plenty of breaks in the shade, especially in the first few days. As well as being very dangerous to the skin, a case of serious sunburn can all-but ruin a vacation.

Talking of water, beware of strong currents in the sea, and avoid using lilos on open water – these can easily be carried out dangerously far with a few waves or strong gusts of wind.

On top of this apply all the rules you would at home – make sure you know where your kids are and that they’re being supervised. Watch out for steep drops, unguarded fires and so on – not all countries have such stringent health and safety guidelines as the UK. Of course, if an accident happens that spoils your holiday and should’ve been preventable, and your tour operator (for example) is to blame, you may wish to speak to a no win no fee solicitor about possible compensation.

That all said, you can avoid many of these pitfalls with the increasingly popular “staycation”, relaxing at home with all your designer watches or holidaying here in the UK. True, you might not get the sunshine, but there’s an awful lot of fun and fascinating things to do right on our doorstep. And as you won’t be flying, you’ll be cutting back on your carbon footprint too. Your kids probably won’t have carbon emissions as top of their holiday priorities right now of course, but when they grow up they might look back and thank you for having had the foresight to help slow disastrous climate change. What’s more, you can spend the money you save in airfares on an awful lot of fun – and safe! – days out together.

Posts on this blog are usually regarding physical toys for children but after reading an interesting story in a well known national newspaper this morning I have decided to change tact slightly. The internet is becoming increasingly popular amongst young school children who enjoy using the medium to play online games via websites like CBeebies and young demographic social networking-meets-gaming website Moshi Monsters.  My own seven year old is even taught using the internet and is regularly set homework that needs to be completed via online means!

But there is growing concerns that the fascination (some might even say “obsession”) with online gaming amongst children is having a negative impact on their ability to learn during school hours. One primary school teacher – 40 year old Richard Gribble – told several newspapers of how after conducting a study he found that 78% of his students (aged 10 and 11) often used their home computers until 4am, so it is not ridiculous to imagine that children just a few years younger than those surveyed are also doing the same. Many children also admitted to waking up extra early in order to browse the internet before school. Children who do this we not get enough hours of sleep and this will greatly impact their levels of concentration at school and therefore, their overall academic performance.

The teacher also worryingly discovered that 64% of the youngsters he asked had also seen image of a sexual nature online.

Alarmed parents shouldn’t take the action of completely banning their children from the home computer or WWW however. Online access for children can most definitely be beneficial to them – we are living in an increasingly technology driven world so learning IT skills from an early age is important and the ‘net can also be an excellent communication tool. It is imperative however to supervise the browsing of younger children and to install parental settings on your PC to protect your kids from content you would really rather they did not see.

And obviously, children should be sent to bed at a reasonable time. Sleep is very important from growing kids!

There’s play value and then there’s financial value. Toys are meant to be cherished and enjoyed by children, but even so miniature die-cast vehicles from at least 20 years ago still seem to be selling for more than the real thing. A boxed set of six Dinky vans went for £35,000 (you could get three real Ford Transits for that and afford short term van insurance cover for almost eight years!). The most sought after models have been fetching two or three times estimated prices at auction.

Dinky began life in 1934 as a Meccano spin-off and was owned by Hornby. The first ranges captured the imagination of a pre-war generation of kids that had never seen quality metal toy cars before. Any chips or blemishes can have a huge impact on price and if you’ve got the original box that can double the value. Corgi Toys first appeared in July 1956, manufactured by Mettoy Playcraft in Wales, as direct competition to Dinky Toys. Corgi’s initial sales gimmick was to include plastic windows and windscreens on all its cars.

The thing they both had in common was the sheer robustness of their build quality. They were all die cast metal, which is probably why they lasted so long and gave as much play value. It’s also probably why most seem to have survived to become valuable as an investment too!

Regrettably, the same cannot be said about today’s, mainly plastic, toy cars. If they were real, you’d be best advised only to get short term car insurance on them as it’s unlikely they would last any longer than 28 days!

The demise of Dinky Toys is another connection with reality as it mirrored the decline of Britain’s motor industry, with the firm folding in 1979. Most manufacture of toy cars nowadays is done in the Far East, in China. They tend not be exact replicas of actual cars you’d see on the streets, but lavish and sometimes outlandish visions with flashing lights or other features deemed to be essential to keep a modern generation of kids interested.

Do they have the same play value as their predecessors? Probably, although the child’s world in which they must now compete for attention is very different from the one 30 years ago. Will they have the same financial value? Unlikely, because they are probably not going to survive anywhere near as intact as their chunkier forerunners. However, if they give the same amount of pleasure as those crude but beautifully made Dinky toys, does how much they are worth to a collector really matter?
